For the last month I have been working on a blanket for a friend’s baby shower, a pattern I found on Ravelry called Tiramisu Blanket. I wanted to add an applique, and it wasn’t difficult to figure out what to do since the nursery’s theme revolves around aviation and airplanes. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any plane applique pattern, so I decided to make my own. I am sharing this pattern, hoping that you will like it!
All the parts are made separately, the body, wings, tails and helix. I used a G/4mm hook because I needed my airplane to be large, approx. 9 inch wide and 6 inch long. If you decide to work with 4mm, gauge will equal 2 inches for 9 stitches of single crochet. If you want your airplane smaller, just use a smaller hook.
I used Red Heart Super Saver Solids, you can pick any colors you want, whatever works best for your project. Now, to the pattern!

Voila! I hope you found this tutorial useful, and if you have any questions or problems with the pattern, don’t hesitate to ask me.
Happy crocheting!
I love this pattern! I have an Etsy shop, and I would be really interested in using some of your applique patterns on the products I sell. I would never sell any of your patterns, and I would always include a link to the relevant blog post in the item listings for the products I use your patterns for. Please let me know if this is something you are okay with — either reply or send me an email at sweetlystitchedbykw@gmail.com. Thanks!
Hi! You can use my applique patterns for your products, I have no problem with it as long as you don’t take credit for the patterns 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
Hi! Like sweetlystitchedbykw I also have an etsy shop. My great grandmother made up a crochet sweater pattern that was at some point named the “airplane sweater” because the shape of the actual sweater looked like an airplane. I recently made that sweater for my cousins baby and wanted to put an airplane on it so I used your pattern and it looked awesome! I want to sell the “airplane sweater” pattern in my etsy shop using some of the photos from the sweater I made recently. Would it be ok to use the photos with your airplane and link back to your pattern? I would only be selling the pattern for my plain sweater.
Thanks,
Hi Melanie. Yes, go ahead. Thank you for asking!
thanks for sharing, just finished making one
You’re welcome! I hope you like it 🙂
Love the pattern Thank you
I am glad you like it! 🙂
Hi
How did you attach the plane to the blanket?
Thanks
Hello! I sewed it to the blanket by embroidering the edges to the stitches of the blanket. In order to not see through, I made sure that I inserted my needle inside the threads of the blankets and not completely on the other side. Another option is to use fabric glue, but personally I prefer the first option.
Thank you so much for posting this adorable pattern. Much appreciated.
You are very welcome! 🙂
I hope some day I can make this pattern. I’m not brand new to crochet, having made 12 afghans, some pillow covers and some amigurumi. However, I’ve never worked the back of a chain and this is confusing and I don’t know what or how you’re doing it! Back and forth or in a circle? I’ve done both and my plane body comes out completely different. Three hours and a half later and I have to call it quits. I wish I knew how I could learn how to do this stuff because I know I’m capable I just don’t know what’s being done…
I love this, exactly what I was looking for. I too, used a pattern from Ralvery , airplane design. The changing of colors was too difficult for me so I decided to make a white background and looking for an airplant applique. Is perfect thank you for posting.
Thank you for your feedback, I am glad that my pattern was helpful!
