Snowman Ornament

It’s time to start some Christmas projects. This year I am going to publish several patterns to make ornaments. The first one is a snowman that will look really cute on your Christmas tree. Get your hooks and yarn ready!

I used Caron Simply Soft to make the snowman, and a 2.75mm hook. The larger the hook, the bigger it will be. This one is about 4 inch tall, and it is crocheted in spirals without joining the rounds. I hope you will enjoy this pattern!

Materials:
– 1 medium/4 worsted yarn – white (Caron Simply Soft)
– 1 medium/4 worsted yarn – black (Caron Simply Soft)
– 1 medium/4 worsted yarn – red (Caron Simply Soft)
– 2.75mm crochet hook
– 1 pair of 0.2 inch goggly eyes
– Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
– Stitch marker
– Yarn needle
– Felt: green and orange
– Embroidery thread, black
– Glue gun, or fabric glue

Abbreviations:
rnd = round
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
inc = increase
dec = dec
rnd = round
BLO = back loops only
FLO = front loops only

THE PATTERN:

Head:
With white yarn, make a magic ring
Rnd 1: 6 sc in center of the ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: [1 sc, inc] 6 times (18)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24)
Rnd 5 to 9: sc in each st around (24)
Rnd 10: [2 sc, dec] 6 times (18)
Rnd 11: [1 sc, dec] 6 times (12)
Rnd 12: dec 6 times (6)
Fasten off. Embroider the thread in the stitches of the last row to close the hole.

Body:
With white yarn, make a magic ring
Rnd 1: 6 sc in center of the ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: [1 sc, inc] 6 times (18)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] 6 times (30)
Rnd 6 to 10: sc in each st around (30)
Rnd 11: [3 sc, dec] 6 times (24)
Rnd 12: [2 sc, dec] 6 times (18)
Rnd 13: [1 sc, dec] 6 times (12)
Rnd 14: dec 6 times (6)
Fasten off. Embroider the thread in the stitches of the last row to close the hole.

Hat:
With black yarn, make a magic ring
Rnd 1: 6 sc in center of the ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: [1 sc, inc] 6 times (18)
Rbd 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24)
*Rnd 5: 1 row of sc, BLO (24)
Rnd 6 to 8: sc in each st around (24)
*Rnd 9: [3 sc, inc] 6 times, FLO (30)
Rnd 10: [4 sc, inc] 6 times (36)
Fasten off, weave in the loose thread in the stitches of the hat.

*Each stitch has two loops. Insert your hook on the back one instead of both loops when you work on row 5 (BLO).

*Row 9 is worked with the front loops only (FLO).

Scarf:
With red yarn, 40 in ch.
Row 1: 39 hdc
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Assembly:
– Glue the head and body together. Glue the goggly eyes on the head.

– Cut a rectangle in some orange felt, about 1 x 0.5 inch . Roll it and glue as you go. Glue between the eyes to make a nose.

– Cut 2 circles in some green felt, and glue to the front of the body to make little buttons.

– Put a line of glue around the inner edge of the hat, and set on the head.

– Wrap the scarf around the neck and make a single knot.

– Cut some black embroidery thread to make a hook, and insert it in the stitches on top of the hat. Make a secure double knot, then hide the knot inside the hat.
